MN Senate Opening Prayer – May 9, 2024

God of springtime emergence, these servants of Minnesota come together with tired eyes from late nights, but with hearts full of the urgent work you call forth in these final days of the session.

Plant in each one here the seed of possibility for healing, hopeful and upbuilding work on behalf of the millions for whom we serve. Water gently the ground of souls here which are hard-packed and weary from strife, that they might expand to take in new possibilities. Nurture impulses of collaboration, reconciliation, and compassion, that what is created together might blossom into greatness that evokes gratitude. Uproot every weedy temptation to pettiness and partisan grievance. Let the persistent wind and urgent breath of those who suffer never be far from ear, that intentions might strengthen into durable law, and that labor here might lead to results now, rather than weak resignation to “another time”.

And finally, God of all creation, when the sun has set on this springtime day, and on this session, and on our service, and on our very lives, may the fruits of this hard, joyful, and rewarding labor, be harvested in a Minnesota marked by dignity, care, generosity, abundance, and full inclusion. In your many names we pray. Amen.
